Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain was enthroned as the Head of the Greek Orthodox Church in London on Saturday.

Hundreds of faithful Orthodox Christians and prominent members of the Greek and Cypriot communities in the UK gathered on Saturday in London to attend the enthronement ceremony for Nikitas, the new Archbishop of the country.

The ceremony followed by a liturgy took place at the Cathedral of the Holy Wisdom in Bayswater in the British capital.

His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas, whose surname was Lioulias, was born in Tampa, Florida, US.

He was active in the Orthodox Christian Church throughout his youth along with his brother, John, who is a renowned teacher and scholar of Greek Folk Dance.

Archbishop Nikitas studied at the University of Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors.. He then enrolled at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Divinity with Honors.

Archbishop Nikitas is fluent in many languages, including English, Greek (Koine, Katharevousa, and Demotic), and Russian. He also has a working command of Latin, Church Slavonic, and Spanish.

He was elected Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain on 12 June 2019.
