A court in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) issued an arrest warrant on Monday for the country’s former Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski. The warrant was issued because Gruevski did not report for his two-year jail sentence for illegally buying a luxury car worth €580 thousand (652 thousand dollars) while he was in power.

Gruevski had appealed to the court for the postponement of his sentence but that was rejected on Friday.

Authorities in FYROM could not locate Gruevski during the weekend and issued the warrant on Monday.

Gruevski has said in the past that all the prosecutions against him have been fixed by the country’s ruling Social-Democrat party.

Gruevski served as the Former Republic of Macedonia’s Prime Minister for 10 years, from 2006 to 2016.
