Turkish Vessel ‘Fatih’ To Begin Drilling in East Mediterranean

Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez has announced that the Turkish drilling vessel “Fatih” (“Conquerer”) will begin drilling operations in the eastern Mediterranean Sea on Wednesday.

The first area where the vessel is expected to drill is located 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the Turkish city of Antalya, opposite the island of Cyprus.

During a ceremony on Tuesday, Donmez said that the country’s aim is to obtain a second drilling vessel to enhance Turkish exploration capabilities for natural gas and oil in the region.
