FYROM: First Parliamentary Vote For Constitutional Changes on October 16

The Parliament of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

According to media reports from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), the country’s parliament in Skopje will hold the first out of the three votes required to implement the constitutional changes that are listed in the Prespa agreement with Greece, on Tuesday, October 16.

The Balkan country is about to change its name from ”Republic of Macedonia” to Republic of North Macedonia and for this, the votes that are needed are at least 80, in a parliament consisting of 120 seats.

This goal is extremely difficult to be achieved though, taking into consideration the stance of the main opposition party of VMRO-DPMNE that has already rejected the agreement and called the referendum of September 30 as ”invalid”.

Officials from NATO and the EU are pushing FYROM to implement the constitutional changes without going for a snap election, but this scenario is highly unlike, with the earliest possible date for the next general elections being put between November 25 and December 2.
