A tragic accident in the Turkish Mediterranean has claimed the lives of at least nine migrants.

Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency reports coast guard sources saying the speedboat sank in the early hours of Sunday morning, a few kilometers southwest off the Antalya coastline.

Five people were rescued while one other remains missing.

Anadolu reports that a fishing vessel raised the alarm which was answered by four ships, a plane and a helicopter.
