Greek-French Skater Gabriella Papadakis Bags Olympic Silver Despite Malfunction

Greek-French ice skater Gabriella Papadakis returned to the rink after a wardrobe malfunction to break her own world record at the Winter Olympics.

The 22-year-old figure skater took silver medal with partner Guillaume Cizeron, 23, after a slick performance at the Gangneung Ice Arena – losing out to Canada.

Papadakis ensured her outfit held together this time after her breast was exposed to the millions of viewers watching worldwide during yesterday’s routine.

The French duo, skating in their first Olympics, put on a brilliant and lyrical free dance for a record total of 205.28 – the previous record of 203.16 was set by them in January.

Papadakis and Cizeron, 23, were competing in a short dance on Monday when her dress somehow came loose at the back.

She tried in vain to cover up and eventually managed to clip her top back together.

Gabriella Papadakis’ father Emmanuel, who runs a food truck business in Austin, Texas is from Korydallos, Greece, and his family has roots in Crete.

Speaking to USA Today, Emmanuel spoke of his worries for the malfunction.

“But it won’t knock her down,” Papadakis said. “She is so tough and she has put in so much work. You wait and see what she goes out and does (on Tuesday). I am so proud of her, especially today.”

He was proven right.
