Greek Conductor Teodor Currentzis Honored With KAIROS Prize

Teodor Currentzis, a Greek conductor who has founded his own orchestra in Siberia and has given the Opera in Perm an international status, is this year’s laureate of the KAIROS prize.

Since 2007, the KAIROS Prize is awarded to European artists and scientists in the fields of art, music, architecture, design, film, photography, literature and journalism. The award is worth  75,000 euro cash prize, and is one of the most prestigious culture awards in Europe. The award is named after the ancient Greek god of the “right moment.”

Since 2011, Teodor Currentzis has been the music director of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, which is 1,150 kilometers north-east of Moscow on the western edge of the Ural Mountains.
