Consulate General of Greece in Plovdiv Closes Down

presveia-Elladas-Sofia-BulgariaThe Consulate General of Greece in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, will close down in late January, according to Darik radio in Sofia.

The jurisdiction of the Consulate General in Plovdiv includes the prefectures of Burgas, Dobrich, Gabrovo, Haskovo, Kardzhali, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Shumen, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Sliven, Smolyan, Stara Zagora, Targovishte, Yambol, Varna and Veliko Tirnovo.

The Greek Embassy in Sofia has not provided the official reasons for this decision, but confirmed reports that the Consulate General of Greece in Plovdiv will close down on January 29, 2016. The shutdown will be temporary. According to official information, the operation of the diplomatic mission is suspended.

Greek Consul Nikolaos Papageorgiou remained head of the Plovdiv diplomatic mission for only a few months.

The Consulate will be accepting visitors and visa applications until January 29.

After that date, persons interested should contact the Consular Office of the Greek Embassy in Sofia (Evlogi Georgiev 103) or call 00359 02 9691753, 00359 02 9691755 and 00359 02 9691758, announced Maria Tyropoli, the embassy’s press advisor.
