In an opinion piece published in Die Welt and Le Figaro on Monday, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker stated that there is no need for a new EU summit on irregular migration.
Ahead of the meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande in Berlin to discuss the EU migrant crisis, Juncker wrote: “We do not need a new summit. Member-states have to adopt the European measures and apply them to their territory.”
Juncker once again criticized European governments that choose to delay their efforts to transfer refugees from Greece and Italy, the countries that suffer the most during the migrant crisis as they have already received tens of thousands of migrants seeking a safer environment for their families over the last months.
He did not also hesitate to mention that it is the European Union’s responsibility to work on a list of “safe countries” to which refugees could be returned.
