Famous Austrians Choose Greece Despite Crisis

greek-tourismSeveral famous Austrians, from Former Chancellor Franz Vranitzky to the public Austrian Radio and Television general manager Alexander Wrabetz, will continue to remain loyal to Greece, according to an article published in today’s issue of Austrian newspaper Österreich.

In the article entitled “Crisis? – Nevertheless we’ll go,” the former Austrian Chancellor noted that he has been vacationing in southern Crete for many years. Vranitzky, who is known for his love of Greece, owns a house with his wife in Ierapetra.

Furthermore, he stressed that the people in Crete feel very insecure and are wondering how things are going to turn out.

The newspaper reported that Greece was visited by 24 million tourists in 2014, a record number, and despite the crisis, the wave of tourists has not stopped in 2015. There have been no cancellations so far. However, some travelers are requesting information about the payment possibilities in the region they are planning to visit.

Austrians remain loyal to Greece and every year 350,000 citizens travel to the Greek islands for their holidays, mainly in Crete and Rhodes.

Some Austrian celebrities who will be travelling to Greece this year are public Austrian Radio and Television general manager Wrabetz, actor and presenter Alfons Haider, who visits Mykonos every year, and the deputy mayor and deputy governor of Vienna, Maria Vasilakou, an Austrian politician of Greek origin who always returns to Greece for her vacation.
