Russia: ‘Greeks Did Not Ask For Cash’

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

Greece has not asked Russia’s Finance Ministry for financial assistance,” Russian Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak told Reuters on Thursday referring to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras‘ visit to St. Petersburg.

“Greece’s Prime Minister is visiting Russia to discuss joint projects, not to seek cash. Besides, there are no resources in our budget to provide money. Russia wants Greece to resolve its financial problems and normalize relations with its partners, and it does not support the escalation of tensions,” added the Russian government official.

Tsipras arrived earlier to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in an effort to expand his country’s cooperation with the BRICS countries and is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other officials.
