Greeks in Campania: 500 Years of History

naplesThe Greek Community of Naples and Campania, the Italian Directorate General of Archives and the Federation of Greek Communities and Brotherhoods of Italy, in collaboration with the Greek Embassy in Rome, the University of Crete Mediterranean Studies Institute, the Italian Philhellenic Society, the San Pietro a Majella State Conservatory of Naples, the Maniatakeion Foundation at Koroni, the Philosophical Studies Institute and the Naples Jewish Community organized an exhibition on the long history of Greeks in Campania.

The exhibition entitled “Greeks in Campania: 500 Years of History” will be presented in Naples from June 5 to September 30, 2015, and will include archival material -mostly unpublished- from 1500 AD to date, as well as significant videos and Greek Diaspora relics.

Furthermore, a conference has been organized as part of the exhibition, under the auspices of the Italian Culture Ministry, the Greek Foreign Ministry’s General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad, the Municipality of Naples and the Campania Region. The International Scientific Conference will take place on June 26, 2015, and will be attended by several prestigious researchers.

Hellenism in Naples and Southern Italy is one of the most important pages in the course of Modern Greek history.
