Greek Creative Director of ‘Victoria’s Secret’

victoriassecret2Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, a woman of Greek origin who grew up in London, has been working for many years as the creative director for Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Her parents had an arranged marriage after only knowing each other for a week. According to the director, her entrepreneurship was inspired by her father, while her mother, a seamstress was responsible for her sensible side. “She was the grounded one — and that’s who I get my practicality and probably my love of clothes from,” she said during an interview with Business of Fashion.

At the start of her career, Sophia worked at an architectural office, but soon after had some sort of “midlife crisis” and ended up quitting her job. Architecture was a very slow process and the young Sophia wanted to see immediate results of her work. Therefore she decided that it was time for something new.

With the help of a friend she found a job at Elle Decoration and fell in love with fashion. She knew that it was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. She moved on to British Vogue. “I knew absolutely that I had found what I wanted to do for the rest of my working life and, of course, once I had made that decision, I was persistent and determined enough to go for it,” she said.

She has worked with Victoria’s Secret, as the Fashion Show creative director, presenting ideas on how to showcase the pieces, while she also has worked as a consultant with many fashion designers such as Roland Mouret, Elie Saab, Antonio Berardi and Anya Hindmarch.
