Greek Students Take 7th Place in World Robot Olympiad

greek stidents wroA team of Greek students placed 7th in this year’s World Robot Olympiad, which took place in Sochi, Russia. The Olympiad theme for this year was “Robots and Space.” The Greek students had the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and scientific background, and managed to stand out in a total of 100 participants from around the world.

The team’s creative thinking, their ability to handle modern technologies under the guidance of their coach Mr. Moraitis helped the Greek students (Agoropoulos Stelios, Lessis Alexandros, Dimitris Eleftheriadis, Taoukis Iasonas and Zafiris Orpheas) take the 7th place.

This is an important distinction since the competition WRO (World Robot Olympiad) is an event that touches science, technology and education spheres and unites the young people from all corners of the planet. It helps them to develop their problem solving skills, creativity and education level in different subjects, such as science, mathematics and many others.

The teams that will participate in the next Olympiad — taking place in Qatar in 2015 — will be selected at the 7th National Competition which is organized by the WRO Hellas in collaboration with the Regional Education Directorates of Greece. The competition will take place in June, under the Greece ‘s Education Ministry auspices.
