Eight people from Greece, Cyprus and Turkey will be selected to participate in a program that will introduce them to the parliamentary system of Germany. A total of 120 scholars from 41 countries will learn to cooperate and respect cultural differences by working with candidates across the world.

The International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) program was presented by Bernhard Schulte-Drueggelte, a German MP of CDU/CSU and head of the International Solidarity Programs of the Federal House of Commons (Bundestag).

Mr. Schulte-Drueggelte said that, until now, the program was aimed at new members of the European Union from the former Eastern Bloc. This year, Germany decided that Greece, Cyprus and Turkey form a sort of “bridge” with these countries. They have now included them in the program.

During the five-month program, the participants will be working for the office of a German member of parliament. They will be watching as the MP performs his duties. They will observe him throughout activities that have to do with his electorate. At the same time, they will be attending seminars and lectures in three Berlin universities.

The scholarship includes a 450-euro per month stipend, accomodation, health and liability insurance and travel expenses to and from Berlin. Applications will be available in December at the German Embassy. Candidates should have a university degree and must be fluent in German.
