Kazantzakis House in Antibes for Sale

kazantzakisThe house of Nikos Kazantzakis in Antibes, France has recently been put on the market. The home where Kazantzakis settled with his wife Eleni in 1948 also saw him produce some of his best-known works: “Zorba the Greek,” “Christ Recrucified” and “Captain Michalis.” The news has spurred many of his followers into action, including Aristeas Plevris, the Deputy Mayor of Culture of the Municipality of Heraklion, Crete.

“Since we found out, we decided to contact the Greek Ministry of Culture and the admirers of Nikos Kazantzakis around the world,” says Plevris. He added that the Municipality of Heraklion does not have the resources to buy the house in Antibes; he stressed, however, that he was going to try to raise awareness and find a way to ensure that the house stays in Greek possession.

Antibes – “Antipolis” in ancient Greek – boasts a Nikos Kazantzakis square. Off the city’s Rue du Bas Castelet there is a beautiful alley lined by trees and a bench inscribed with a marble dedication to the Cretan author.
