Yorkshire Sculpture Park Transformed Into Ancient Greek University

School_of_AthensHester Reeve, a lecturer in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University, is working with local groups to create a series of free activities at a park near Barnsley on Saturday, August 30.

His project called YMEDACA aims to transform the Yorkshire Sculpture Park into an ancient Greek university. Reeve got inspired by the first university founded by Plato in fifth century BC in Greece.

Visitors can join West Yorkshire Astronomical Society on a walking tour of the sculpture park to discover the exact position of the planets, witness the scythe-cutting of reeds at the park’s lower lake by Hand Tools United and look around the Greek temple to experience The Magick Lounge Club.

The activities include workshops and performances by the Cantabile Choral Group, The Royal British Legion, West Yorkshire Pagan Meet Up and Yorkshire Sun Society as well as The Sacrifice to Athena performed by Hester Reeve and the Magick Lounge Club at 8.30pm.

Visitors can admire the Temple of the Muses at the National Arts Education Archive and The Game Plan in the upper part of the YSP Centre until September 7.

Places need to be booked for some of the events. For more information visit ysp.co.uk/events/ymedaca
