Austrian Newspaper Praises Epirus and ‘lazy bankrupt Greeks’

epirusAn article of the Austrian newspaper “Oberosterreichische Nachrichten” cites the beauty of Epirus, western Greece while criticizing the anti-Greek stereotypes reproduced by the European media, saying that it was the lazy bankrupt Greeks who constructed Egnatia road, one of Europe’s biggest motorways.

The newspaper states that in Epirus, visitors will be rewarded with natural paradises, dreamy beaches and a rich cultural life. Greece’s largest mountain range, Pindus is located in Epirus, as is also Smolikas, the second highest mountain of Greece at a height of 2,637 m

According to the article, despite the wild nature and the huge ravines, the “lazy bankrupt Greeks” managed to build the Egnatia road, which through its long tunnels and high bridges gives visitors the opportunity to explore and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Greek mainland.

The article gives praise to the city of Parga, the northwestern part of Epirus, which is surrounded by “dreamy bays” and the beautiful islands of Corfu and Lefkada. In Parga, visitors will discover stunning beaches and breathtaking caves as well as a rich culture and a delicious local cuisine.

The tour continues to the towns of Metsovo and Arta presenting their beauty and tradition. Finally, the article presents the Acheron river which in ancient Greek mythology was known as the river of pain, as it was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld.
