Greek Film Week in Belgrade

Greek film weekMarking the Greek EU Presidency, Greek Film Week will take place from April 23 to 28 in Belgrade, under the title “Images from the past, vision of the future”, and under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece, Serbia’s Ministry of Culture, the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and the EU Info Center, Dom Omladine and the Film Archive in Belgrade, the Greek Film Archive, the Hellenic Film Center, the Hellenic Business Association and the Hellenic Cultural Center in Belgrade.

During Greek Film Week, the audience will have the unique opportunity to discover both contemporary and classical Greek artists and learn about the works that have marked the history of the Greek cinema as well as the contemporary works inspired by the financial crisis. The Serbian audience will also have the opportunity to talk with several Greek directors and actors who will visit Belgrade to attend the event.

The program includes classical masterpieces such as Ulysses’ Gaze by Theodoros Angelopoulos, Iphigenia by Michael Cacoyannis and Spring Gathering by Dimos Avdeliodis and modern award-winning films such as Dogtooth by Giorgos Lanthimos, Miss Violence by  Alexandros Avranas and Knifer by Yannis Economides.

Greek Film Week will open on Wednesday, April 23, with the screening of the 1953 classic Barefoot Battalion by Gregg C. Tallas. The Greek Embassy has expressed its satisfaction that the cinephiles of Belgrade will meet with the endless creativity of Greek filmmakers.
