Lakis Vigas Remains Representative of Minorities in Turkey

K

After the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Bülent Arınç, reassured that the drafting of a new electoral rule concerning the minority institutions is his priority, Mr. Lakis Vigas announced his decision to remain representative of the non-Muslims of Vakoufia at the Board of the General Directorate of Vakoufia in Turkey.

Mr. Arınç, responsible for the General Directorate of Vakoufia, contacted Mr. Lakis Vigas and asked him to remain in his position to help resolve the issue and smooth adaptation of a new electoral rule which will govern the minority institutions from now on.

After this development, Mr. Vigas, who last week had submitted his resignation in protest of the Government’s delay in promoting the new electoral rule, stated that he would remain representative of the minorities at the board of the General Directorate of Vakoufia until the end of the year when his spell will end. However, he will continue to work for the interests of the minorities.
