Summer is just around the corner and while many foreigners refer to Greece as “paradise on earth,” the tributes to glorious destination keep on multiplying. Now Sweden has jumped in, following the British and American media on the big rave on Greece and it’s countless beautiful destinations.

The online version of the Swedish newspaper “Expressen” presents the “Best Ten Greek Islands” based on public preferences as expressed via comments and polls on various touristic websites.

According to the tribute, the Swedish seem to prefer Crete and the Cyclades landscapes of:

  • Crete
  • Naxos
  • Amorgos
  • Karpathos
  • Samos
  • Rhodes
  • Tilos
  • Skiathos
  • Skopelos
  • Santorini

The Swedish website also noted that Crete is the largest Greek island and that Naxos has beautiful and picturesque villages as well as wonderful beaches, some of which are ideal for windsurfing.

The article also mentions the shooting of the film “The Big Blue” which took place in Amorgos, in addition to the natural beauty of Karpathos and historical sites of Samos.

Rhodes is the fourth largest island of Greece with a lively nightlife and great cultural heritage. Skiathos is characterized as the representative of the Northern Sporades, followed by Skopelos, the island on which “Mamma Mia” was filmed, highlighting both the green nature and blue sea of the island. The list is completed with Santorini and the famous volcano which erupted 3,500 years ago.
