Inheritance of a Greek Housemaid and Missing Beneficiaries

inheritanceThe death of an 82-year-old woman from Corfu who lived in London for decades, brought an enormous inheritance to surface. However its recipients are missing. If no relatives of the deceased appear, in order to collect the inheritance, then all money will be donated to the State of Great Britain and not to the Municipality of Corfu, as ordered by the woman.

Katerina Vrachlioti was born and raised in Potamos village, in Corfu, in 1930. She was a poor and illiterate girl who experienced the tough years of the Second World War and the civil war that followed.

In 1950, when the country was  slowly recovering from the war, the 20-year-old Katerina went to Athens to work as a housemaid. In the 60’s her luck changed, as she started to work in the houses of rich Athenians and wealthy Englishmen who were living in the Greek capital and helped her make the next important step in her life.

The young girl left Greece and immigrated to England. At the time, many Greeks were leaving their homes in order to live a better life abroad. Katerina never left England. She learned English and even acquired British citizenship and a British passport.

After her death, it was revealed that the deceased had a secret: during all these years of hard work, she was saving her money with great patience. As long as she does not have a direct inheritor, a London law firm holds the secret of the amount of money of the inheritance.

This amount, which is rumored to reach the 100,000 pounds, should be delivered to her closest relatives, wherever they are. According to corfupress.gr the woman had orally ordered that an amount of the money be given to the Municipality of Corfu for charities.

The amount of money will only be revealed when the inheritors of the deceased are found. If they have valid evidence that they are her closest relatives they can claim the inheritance.
