The international travel group TUI presented the report on “touristic year 2013” with a very positive note for our country. “Greece is the winner of the summer season” in Austria.
The touristic season of 2013 ended in late October, giving optimism for the upcoming season.
According to the Program Coordinator of the Group, Margit Empner, Greece has gradually regained its position as one of the most popular destinations for the Austrian public, with Crete and Rhodes noting a spectacular increase while prices for Greek destinations remain stable.
She stated that the demand for Greek destinations exceeded the supply. She also stressed that the success of Greece in 2013 will continue in 2014, and that the innovation in the Greek program of the TUI group, will be the opening of the new hotel Sensimar, in Corfu.
Some of the elements that characterize the strategy and composition of the programs of the Group in 2014, are: flexibility in the choice of destination, propositions- thematic holiday packages; enhanced services; 24-hour contact with local dealer; hotel selection with environmental protection criteria, and signage of hotels and destinations according to customer’s requirements.
The director of the largest Austrian tourist agency, Walter Kral had stated that 2013 could become the “Year of Greek tourism,” noting that this year, all the classic summer destinations especially in Greece are in high demand. He noted that Greece, after years of a less than stellar reputation, may again come ahead.
On average, over 500,000 Austrians visit Greece every year, whereas Austria, in proportion to its population of 8.4 million inhabitants, is for years #1 in terms of foreign tourist arrivals in Greece.
