Greek and Cypriot Naïf Painters Exhibited in Istanbul

paintersSismanoglio Megaro of the consulate of Greece, is hosting an exhibition entitled “Greek and Cypriot naïf painting exhibition” from October 25 to November 17.

It’s the panorama of a different Greece, featuring images from the Greek tradition and the day-to-day life in the country and city. Thessaly, Mitilene, Evrytania, Crete, Peloponese, Thrace, Athens, Plaka and Acropolis but also Cyprus, Izmir and Istanbul, compose a different multicolored panorama. Its value is historic, aesthetic and folklore.

The naif collection consisting of more than 100 paintings of Christos and Polly Kolliali is one of the richest, simply because it captures the Greek and Cypriot “naïf” style with great skill and aesthetics. Among them, are also painters with great artistic culture who chose to express themselves through the tradition. “Some of them are not know to us”, said the curator of the exhibition Iris Kritikou.

The artists are: Nikos Gavriel Pentzikis, Christos Kagkaras, Menti Bost, Ersi Hatzimihali, Kaiti Nikolaou, Maria Pop, Evgenios Spatharis, Yannis Theophilis, Yannis Amorgianos, Yannis Mitrakas, Niki Eleutheriadi, Niki Nikolaidi, Sofia Kalogeropoulou, Rouli Boua and Yanna Ksera.

The exhibition will also be presented in Greece in the next few months.
