A concert for peace and friendship under the title A Cultural Trip from Greece to Turkey was given on Sept. 22 at the Halki Greek Orthodox Seminary.

Greek and Turkish musicians and singers participated in the concert, such as Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Kostas Thomaidis, Mustafa Doğan Dikmen, Engin Arslan and Vasiliki Papageorgiou accompanied by the Plucked String Orchestra of the Municipality of Patras, Thanasis Tsipinakis, under the direction of conductor Stathis Soulis, the Ottoman Music Orchestra Bosphorus, the composer Giorgos Andreou at the piano and the traditional clarinetist Manos Achalinotopoulos.

The Turkish press noted the concert was broadcasted live on Greek TV and underlined the appearance of the Greek musician and composer Evanthia Rempoutsika, well-known to Turkey for preparing the soundtrack for the Turkish film My Father and My Son (Babam ve Oğlum).

Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew, Bulgarian Patriarch Neofitos, the Greek consul general in Istanbul, and the Mayor of the Prince Islands Mustafa Farsakoğlu attended the concert.

“We hope that the Theological School of Halki will open again to educate young priests. We hope that this concert will be the pioneer for the reopening of the Halki seminary and a strong message,” Patriarch Bartholomew said in his foreword to the event.
