The three Greek candidates in the Sept 22 German federal elections failed to be elected at the Bunderstag. They were candidates from three different parties that all saw their percentages drop because of Angela Merkel‘s Christian Democrats (CDU)’s electoral triumph.

The first of the three, Stella Kirgiane-Efremidis, candidate with the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), wrote on her personal Facebook account: “What a pity. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for our constituency. Even though as a ‘new’ candidate, I improved on the previous result, it’s still disappointing. Nevertheless, I congratulate the CDU on its result! Massive thanks to my great team!!! We had a ball! Thanks for your efforts.”

Kirgiane-Efremidis is the daughter of Greek migrants and grew up in the region of Baden Wuerttemberg.

The second Greek candidate, Lampros Savvidis, with Die Linke (The Left) did not make it to parliament, as his party came third.

Spyridon Aslanidis, financial adviser and candidate for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (Alliance ‘90/The Greens) was not elected either.
