More Greeks Got German Citizenship in 2012

Greece_GermanyThe number of Greeks who became naturalized German citizens has risen by 82 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (in German: Statistisches Bundesamt, for short Destatis).

Correspondingly, the number of Italians who became naturalized German citizens rose by 29 percent, while the number of citizens of EU countries who received German citizenship rose by 19.1 percent and the total number of foreigners who became naturalized German citizens also increased in 2012 for the fifth consecutive year reaching 112,300.

Most applications, according to Destatis, were submitted in the state of Baden-Württemberg, which is the richest state in  Germany with a very low unemployment rate.
