Youth Orchestra of Dion Travels to Ancient Ephesus

orxistra_DionChildren aged 7 to 20 years old, from the Pieria regional unit, (in the Region of Central Macedonia, northern Greece), will travel to Turkey to give a special concert at the ancient Greek city of Ephesus, which is near present-day Selçuk, Izmir Province, Turkey.

All these children are members of the Youth Orchestra of Dion. Dion is a village in the Pieria regional unit, best known for its archaeological site and the Archaeological Museum of Dion. The orchestra, invited by the Municipality of Selçuk, will be in the neighboring country on September 4.

With their appearance in Asia Minor, the summer concerts of the Youth Orchestra of Dion will be completed. “The orchestra consists of 100 members in total, whose children come from all around the regional unit of Pieria. Most children come from villages of Dion. They are from elementary school students  up to high school students, while there are also a few university students.

A group of fifty will travel to Turkey for this concert,” Grigoris Papachristos, explained to ANA-MPA, press and public relations officer of the Arts and Letters Center of Dion.

Before it travels to Turkey, the Youth Orchestra of Dion will give a concert on Aug. 30 at the Acropolis of Proerna, in the Phthiotis regional unit, as part of “Under the light of the moon” events.

The orchestra already toured many regions in Greece, among them Athens, Thessaloniki, Pieria, Imathia and Serres, leaving the best impressions everywhere.
