FAGE Recovers Lost Ground in the UK

giaourti-660In the last couple of months, the Greek dairy company FAGE seems to have made a dynamic comeback in the UK market.

In the second quarter this year, FAGE sales rebounded from disappointing results and after it won a legal battle involving its TotalĀ  yogurt against US newcomer Chobani, run by a Turkish-American businessman.

Despite the fact that during the second quarter the sales were in fact lower, a marginal decrease of only 0.1% has been recorded, which resulted solely from a decline in sales in Greece by 10.7%.

In contrast to the domestic market, the Greek yogurt companyā€™s sales abroad were increased, especially in Great Britain,Ā  where they rose by almost 32 , 8% in value.

According to market factors, this development is the result of the decision of the British court which granted FAGE a permanent injunction against Chobani, that prohibits the company from marketing its US-made yogurts as ā€œGreekā€ in the UK and awarded FAGE legal costs.

According to the verdict ā€œGreek yogurt has to be from Greece.ā€
