Charges Merkel Hiding Greek Debt Cut

1203BACFC97815CA35B961E3909812B1The German newspaper Die Zeit published an article, entitled “The bill, please!” in which it charged that Chancellor Angela Merkel, facing re-election next month, is deliberately concealing that she will go along with Greece imposing losses on its lenders, of which Germany is the biggest.

The paper said she doesn’t want to jeopardize her chances of winning again and pushed the Greek question back past the elections and that Greece will be allowed to give a so-called “haircut” to  public lenders as it did to private investors in 2011 when it imposed 74 percent losses on them.

As it is mentioned in the article, “by November, the German government will have to admit before the Germans that Greece will never be able to repay a part of its debt. This period the EU and IMF auditors will return to Greece. The IMF already gives some idea of what they are about to announce: The country should be alleviated at least by 7.5 billion euros in order to get back on its feet.” The reporter noted that, “One could call this a political delicacy. Or deception of voters”.
