Cretans of Belgium Mark 100th

tromaktikoA series of events that will last for a whole month are scheduled to be held in Brussels by the Cretan Association of Belgium with the participation of the municipality of Heraklion and the local committee of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis.

The events to take place are to be under the auspices of the Region of Crete within the framework of the upcoming celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Union of the island with the rest of Greece.

The celebrations will run from Nov. 6-Dec. 7 with a concert given by the Irish musician Ross Daly. Although of Irish descent, he has been living on the island of Crete for more than 35 years.

According to the program, from Nov. 6-17, an exhibit of works made by the Cretan artists who live in Belgium is to be displayed. The event coordinator and regional Councillor Manolis Alexakis will as well give a speech on the historical anniversary.

On Nov. 9 and Nov. 21,  in collaboration with the Office of EOT in Brussels, actions will take place over the promotion of Crete and some of its products.

Also from Nov. 18-Dec. 10 another exhibit with material from the life and work of Kazantzakis is to be displayed, in collaboration with the Kazantzakis Museum. On Nov. 20 innovations by the Technology Research Institute Crete are to be presented.
