Reselling Causes Shortage In Pharmacies

1A9F076B7FB4396809F4EB2D11772117A report by the BBC said Greece’s ongoing economic crisis is taking its toll with the supply of drugs at pharmacies with some reported to be low as the government has fallen behind in making payments for state-subsidized health insurance programs.

Greek drug stores reportedly have no reserves left for 500 major medications. The report said that wholesalers in Greece re-sell drugs worth millions of euros, which they have taken at very low prices from the state, preventing them from reaching the Greek patients that need them.

The government is said to be investigating and promising fines and export bans on medications that some pharmacists allegedly ship to other countries to make a profit instead of having them available for Greek patients because the government isn’t paying them.
