“Greece is the big winner for the summer season,” the representative of Thomas Cook Tours said. He noted that the country has recovered from the crisis of the previous year and presents an upward trend, at least as far as the domain of tourism is concerned.
According to an article published in the newspaper Die Welt about Greek tourism, Germans travel more than they did in the past and German travel agencies have already noted an increase of 18 percent for bookings concerning the month of October.
“The star for the year 2013 is Greece, which succeeded a turnover increase up to 30 percent in some offices,” the newspaper reported. Germans now travel more, while the riots in Egypt are preventing tourists from visiting the country and turn to other destinations.
Greece ranks third in 2013 as far as the company TUI is concerned. “Spain is still the most popular country and Majorca is the most popular destination,” a TUI representative stated.
The representative of the biggest European travel agency of last minute bookings, l’tur, said that, “Majorca, Greece and Turkey are the top-3.”
The political situation in Turkey is considered by tour operators to be less dramatic than in Egypt. “Turkey still remains one of the most popular travel destinations among German tourists in the Mediterranean and is positively developed,” the Thomas Cook representative stated.
