Samaras Says Greece Needs Jobs

samarasbr_551_355Arriving at a meeting of European Union leaders in Brussels, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said he would urge his colleagues to do more to reduce unemployment, which is at a record 27.4 percent in Greece. He didn’t say how.

“Unemployment is the big challenge Europe faces, and especially youth unemployment,” he added. The rate for those under 25 in Greece is more than 64 percent, prompting many young to flee their homeland in search of jobs and a better life elsewhere.

He added that, “In countries such as Greece, unemployment has soared, causing huge problems to social cohesion. We should think creatively and try to find solutions and drastic measures, directly applicable.” He didn’t offer any, however.
