Fourth Epirotes Of Europe Meeting In Germany

epirotesThe fourth meeting of Epirotes of Europe, devoted to the 100 years commemoration of the Liberation of Ioannina, took place in the German city Gemeinde Ketsch am Rhein, situated on the right bank of the river Rhine.

It was organized by the Panepirotic Federation of Europe, in cooperation with the Society of Epirotes in Ludwigshafen. Spyros Kostadimas, the president of the Panepirotic Federation of Europe, declared the official opening.

The Panepirotic Federation awarded for their contribution to Greek traditional music, the Greek singers Petro-Loucas Halkias and Antonis Kyritsis. Greek folk dances were presented by the Epirotic Societies all around Europe.

The established Economic Forum was held, where the development potentials of Epirus were discussed. Mayor of Ioannina Philip Philios, Mayor of Igoumenitsa Giorgos Katsinos, President of the Chamber of Ioannina, Dimitris Dimitriou and the President of the Epirus Cooperative Bank participated in the Forum.

During the Forum, the total of speakers referred to the current economic conjuncture that arouses from the crisis, as well as to existing opportunities for investments, particularly in the primary and secondary sectors, in all Epirus prefectures.

Infrastructures that have developed in Epirus and have changed its image, such as Egnatia Odos, Igoumenitsa Port and Ioannina Airport, will have an important effect on the region’s development, if they are completed. They also talked about the extroversion of Epirotic companies and the role that Epirotes of the Diaspora are expected to play.

The municipality of Ketsch donated a fire engine to Margariti in Igoumenitsa. “We donate the fire engine not only to strengthen the Fire Service, which faces many problems during the summer because of fires, but as a message of solidarity from Germany to Greece,” as the Mayor of Ketsch pointed out during the vehicle’s delivery.
