This year’s 3rd Annual Rome Cereals Festival, Cerealia, that is going to take place in Rome, Italy, from June 6 to 9, will certainly have a taste of Greece. The festival is dedicated to the goddess Ceres (the counterpart of the Greek goddess Demeter) the goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships.
According to what the Greek Ambassador in the Vatican, Yorgos Mamalos said during the festival’s presentation on May 31, ”The cereals festival brings Greece back to Italy in a new light. This moment is very important for our country, which is going through a transitional phase after an extremely harsh economic crisis. There are good signs and the worst seems to have passed.”
Mamalos added, ”A taste of Greece, while awaiting summer and the chance to welcome Italian tourists to our beautiful country.’
The festival, sponsored by M.Th.I, the ArcheoClub d’Italia , the Citta’ dell’Altra Economia and Creare e Comunicare under the aegis of Rome’s provincial government, focuses on Greece’s rich culture and traditions. The Rome Cereals Festival, that has already taken place in Egypt and Turkey the two previous years moves to the direction of supporting culture in the Mediterranean area.
The festival will open with an event at the Baths of Diocletian with the theme, Wandering in the Mediterranean: Greece of yesterday, today and tomorrow, followed by guided tours on archaic agricultural rites in Rome. Workshops on pastry made in ancient Greece, concerts and food and wine sampling from Crete are also scheduled.
