Vasilis Tsiatsianis Pierrot Lunaire 3The Greek successful orchestra conductor and composer Vassilis Tsiatsianis appeared on stage at the Austrian premiere of the opera The Original Chinese Conjuror, which took place in the Friends of Music Hall in Vienna. He conducted Die Reihe Ensemble, which was founded in 1958 by one of the most important Austrian composers of our time, Friedrich Cerha.

The Greek conductor received the audience’s applause and cheering. Raymond Yiu, composer of the opera, arrived from London to attend the premiere. The Original Chinese Conjuror has been very successful in Great Britain since the world premiere in 2006.

Teatro Barocco produced the show, which was directed by the Austrian director, choreographer and former director of the ballet of Zurich Opera, Bernd R. Bienert.

Die Reihe Ensemble is constituted by musicians from the internationally known Vienna Philharmonic, Symphony of Vienna and the Austrian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Tsiatsianis was born in Athens, Greece and studied music and piano at the Hellenic Conservatory. He has been a pianist at the Greek National Opera, has studied composition and orchestral conducting at the Music Academy of Vienna, where he has been working for the last 10 years.

He has developed great artistic activity in Vienna and Central Europe in general. His works are played on a very often basis and in many reputed music halls, while some of them have been broadcasted on the Austrian Radio.

Tsiatsianis has cooperated with famous orchestras and artists in Greece and in various countries abroad, as pianist, composer or orchestra conductor.

He will appear at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall with Ergon Ensemble on May 14 conducting pieces of Erik Satie, Hanns Eisler and Alexandros Mouzas among others.
