Journal Studies Greek Media, Culture

imagesThe Journal of Greek Media and Culture is a new interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal which studies a wide range of manifestations of media and culture in and about Greece.

It will be published three times throughout the year by Intellect, in English, and will be released in print and digital form as well, with the first journal’s issue expected within June 2014.

The principal editor is Lydia Papadimitriou from John Moores University of Liverpool together with some distinguished academics in British universities in the editorial board, such as Dimitris Eleftheriotis, Vassiliki Kolocotroni, Dimitris Papanikolaou, Eleni Papargyriou, Yannis Tzioumakis.

The aim of this magazine is to create a framework within which an inclusive approach to media and culture with reference to film, photography, literature, the visual arts, music, theater and performance could be adopted.

At the same time, it encourages theoretical and methodological approaches that set the example of Greece in an international context, opening the horizons for parallel investigations over other historical and cultural environments. This is a look beyond the relative safety provided by the ancient Greek, Byzantine and Ottoman past.

The journal is a look on the contemporary Greek cultural environment that shaped and still shapes as well, the modern Greek consciousness. According to the editors, the establishment of such a journal “at a time when Greece happens to be in the midst of an acute economic, social and cultural crisis is very important.” This journal is a creative and modern proposal, offered to express the contemporary Greek reality.
