Eleni Kazantzakis Translated Into Romanian

Adevărata-tragedie-a-lui-Panait-IstratiThe book of Eleni Samios-Kazantzakis devoted to the famous author Panait Istrati (1884-1935), was published in Romania by Istros Publications, under the auspices of the Braila Museum.

It is the first Romanian translation of the book, entitled The True Tragedy of Panait Istrati that was written in Aegina in 1935 – the year of Istrati’s death- and published three years later  in Spanish, in Santiago de Chile.

Istrati was born in Braila. His mother was from Romania and his father from Cephalonia, a Greek island of the Ionian Sea. At that time a very active Greek Community was operating in the town.

“Since then the books hasn’t been republished and although it is mentioned in bibliographies, its circulation was limited. The Romanian edition is the first to be accomplished within the three quarters of a century that have passed since the,” the neo-Hellenist Elena Lazar, a member of the Coordinating Committee of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis  and Vice-President of the Romanian department of the society told the Greek news agency ANA.

The first presentation of the Romanian edition took place at the Romanian Literature Museum in Iasi. The Professor of the University of Granada, Enrique Nogueras Valdivieso, and the author and Professor Andrea Rados , President of the Foundation for the Promotion of the Balkan and European Culture Rigas Ferraios from Iasi, were the keynote speakers of the event.
