Patriarch Kirill’s Thoughts With Cypriots

kirillPatriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia expressed his sympathy for Greeks and Cypriots who are suffering from the economic crisis, during the standard annual dinner honoring the Sunday of Orthodoxy in the Greek Embassy in Moscow on March 24.

“We suffer to see our thousands of Cypriots brothers to be hostages of the banking collapse and also be forced to accept the international financial institutions’ proposals for financial assistance” Patriarch Kirill said, surrounded by representatives of the Russian government, the authorities of Moscow, the Russian Holy Synod, expatriates, foreign ambassadors and journalists.

In his reply, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church praised the social work of the Church of Greece in these crisis periods and referred to the financial assistance provided by the Russian Church, welcoming the efforts to increase Russian people pilgrimage tours to Greece.

On the occasion of the Sunday of Orthodoxy, a dinner was held ​​for the 19th year, missing only 2012, when relations between the Russian Church and the Greece were tense over the detention of Abbot Ephraim immediately after his return from Russia.
