Nestle Denies Wanting Worker Firings

nestle_903865263 Nestle Hellas officials have dismissed news reports from Greece that the company wants the government to make it easier for businesses to get rid of workers. The news agency AMNA reported they had made the request to Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis.

In a statement, Nestle Hellas said that “neither Mr. Raymond Franke nor any other representative of our company ever made such a request in their recommendations to improving business environment in Greece”.

According to AMNA, Nestle Hellas highlighted its strategic decision to remain in Greece and continue investing in the country through its factories. The company operates four factories in Greece with a workforce of more than 1,000 permanent workers and despite adverse business and economic environment prevailing in the country it did not made in reductions in personnel or wages.

Moreover, Nestle Hellas plans to invest 8 million euros ($10.3 million) to modernize its factories and develop new products, officials said. The Greek government is imposing more austerity measures and is under pressure to make Greece more competitive by lowering labor costs.
