Agricultural August Travels to Germany

378218_10151115123330067_2061124489_nMayor of Chania, Manolis Skoulakis at the official launch of five new tourist advertisements of the city, announced that the exhibition Agricultural August, which aims at highlighting and promoting quality Cretan products, will now travel to Germany.

These advertisement spots presented and curated by filmmaker Theo Papadoulakis, promote the island’s natural beauty by showing  its monuments, culture and tradition.

Agricultural August is an annual event that takes place in Chania and actually celebrates the area’s agricultural focus. Its main goal is that producers come into contact with consumers, and inform them of their activities by showcasing their products.

Last year, the exhibition traveled to Athens and Thessaloniki. Skoulakis stated that along with the regional section of Chania and the Commercial-Industrial Chamber of Chania, it is under discussion that the exhibition is to be presented in Germany as well, as part of a recovery strategy to attract German tourists through Crete’s gastronomy and nutrition.

Skoulakis talked about the municipality’s efforts over the past few years to attract foreign tourists, such as low-cost airlines. Their main aim is  to help boost employment, create new jobs and increase the region’s disposable income. A key component of this effort is to improve the infrastructure, but to also promote the city.

That is why those five advertisement spots mentioned above, presented today and curated by filmmaker Theo Papadoulakis, promote the island’s natural beauty by showing  its monuments, culture and tradition.
