Fewer Greeks Visited Turkey in 2012

istanbul_agia_sofiaAccording to data acquired from the Turkish Statistical Institute, a 4.5% decrease was observed in relation to the number of Greek citizens who visited Turkey during 2012.

The total foreign tourists’ arrivals in Turkey during last year amounted to 31,782,832 (a number which represents an increase of 1.04%) and among them a great deal of 669,823 tourists were Greek citizens. In 2011, 702,017 Greeks visited Turkey.

The Turkish Statistical Institute has also access to the number of Turkish citizens who visited Greece in previous years. According to this data, in 2011, 347,332 Turks visited Greece, while Turkish arrivals reached 433,290 in 2012.

However, according to the Greek Statistical Institute, over the period between January and September 2012, 466,166 Turks visited Greece, a number that is equivalent to a 10.2% increase in relation to the corresponding period of 2011, when Greece had welcomed 423,124 Turkish citizens.
