Greece’s Young Like to Live With Parents

Momma's BoyIt’s no surprise to Greeks who know the social phenomenon well, but Greece has one of the highest percentages of young adults who prefer to live at home with their parents instead of striking out on their own and get their own place.

Data from 2011 amassed by the European Union statistics agency Eurostat found that 50.7 percent of Greeks from 25-34 still live with at least one of their parents. Greece ranks fourth in the European Union place after Slovakia with a percentage of 56.4%, Bulgaria with 55.7% and Malta with 51.9%.

Nordic countries, which also rank high in competitiveness and strong economies, have the lowest rates with both Sweden and Finland at 4.1%, and Denmark with only 1.9%. Germany’s percentage reaches 14.7% while France came in at 11.6%.
