Kandelaki, Russia’s Powerful Beauty

kantelaki__main-200x200Tina Kandelaki, the Greek broadcaster, producer, politician, member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and co-owner of the Apostol Media Group company, is said to be one of the most powerful women in Russia, as well as the most popular opponent of President Vladimir Putin, making her apparently not easy to intimidate as well.

Her family name and origin are Greek, even though she alleges that she is a Russian of a Georgian origin. Even when living in Tbilisi, she was not considered as Georgian.

The real reason for this was not her father’s Greek origin, but the fact that her mother was an Armenian. This led a group of people to try to convince the others that Kandelaki’s mother comes from America, something that not seems to be true.

Kandelaki was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Tina’s father Givi Kandelaki was an economist and the director of a vegetable depot in Tbilisi, moved to Moscow upon retirement. He is descended from the Kandelakis, a noble Georgian family of Greek descent. Tina’s mother Elvira Kandelaki is a narcologist of Armenian descent.

Kandelaki was graduated from high school in Tbilisi. In 1993, she was accepted into the Medical Department of Tbilisi State University. But soon after she left medicine and transferred to the Journalist Department. In 2008 she was graduated from the Foreign Affairs Department of the Russian State University for the Humanities.
