Aliki Vougiouklaki on Artful Cover

artfulBritish writer, Ali Smith considers the places where art and life intersect, sometimes collide and meld.

Artful is a transformative book separated in four sections, originally delivered as lectures on comparative literature at St. Anne’s College, Oxford. The author writes in the first person. Smith describes Persona’s own journey, who recently lost her longtime love, through her anguish and her responses to her beloved’s notes.

“Smith can make anything happen, which is why she is one of our most exciting writers today,” the Daily Telegraph cited. “Smith’s love of language lights up all her books . . . she’s someone to relish,” the New York Times Book Review said.

“It’s the act of making it up,’ said the author, ‘from the combination of what we’ve got and what we haven’t, that makes the human, makes the art, makes the transformation possible.’

Smith chose famous late Greek actress Aliki Vougiouklaki for the cover of Artful inspired by the range of her roles

Ali Smith was born in Inverness in 1962 and lives in Cambridge. She has also written the following books: There but for the, Free Love, Like, Hotel World, Other Stories and Other Stories, The Whole Story and Other Stories, The Accidental, Girl Meets Boy, and The First Person and Other Stories.
