Germans Gobble Down Metsovo’s Cheeses

metsovoCheeses from the Metsovo region of Greece are finding a lot of fans in Germany where sales are going well for the Greek product. The prefect of Epirus area,  in his recent visit to Germany, said Germans like the quality and taste of the Greek cheese.

The Metsovo cheese promotion efforts were started by Evangelos Averoff-Tositsas, a Greek politician of Aromanian origin and author of several books on political and historical topics.

Metsovo produces many dairy products and a variety of cheeses, popular in all Greece and abroad. They included Metsovone, which is produced all year round, Parmesan from May to September, Metsovella in the Spring and Winter and Graviera from the 20th of May till the 20th of July, when the sheep can graze freely in the area around Metsovo. There is also goat cheese (Chevre) made in Spring (April to May) when the goats are fed on the first tender leaves of holly.
