Heraklion Port of The Year Runner-Up

Within the framework of Seatrade Med 2012, hosted this year in Marseille, Heraclion Port Authority won the Award for being the Port of the Year 2012.

Heraklion Port ranked the final three contenders among 70 ports, not only due to the innovations implemented during 2012, but also because of the innovative process of Home Port, which cooperates with the largest cruise operating company in Europe, Costa Crociere, together with Heraklion International airport, Kazantzakis.

The other two finalists were New York Cruise, which won the first prize, and the Port of Cartagena,  which won third prize.

The award was received by the Chairman and Managing Director of the Heraklion Port Authority, Ioannis Bras, at a ceremony held Nov. 28 in Marseille, who stated that: “Greece even if dealing with some difficult times at the moment, is able to give some  positive news that everyone can be proud of. With hard work, strategic planning and small, targeted steps, we made it. ”

During the Seatrade Med 2012 exhibition in Marseille, meetings have taken place with representatives from all major cruise lines with MSC showing interest in Heraklion as well as Disney Cruise’s intentions of cooperating with Heraklion Port. Finally, Costa Crociere’s ongoing cooperation with the Port of Heraklion was confirmed in the best way possible.
