Mousouroulis Tells Greek Shippers: Fly the Flag

Greek Minister οf Shipping, Maritime Affairs & The Aegean, Kostis Mousouroulis, while visiting London to lure more ships to the Greek registry, said they are a key revenue source for Greece.

“Since we are affected by the current financial crisis, we have to depend on our shipping forces. Here, in London, an international shipping and financial center, the Greek presence is distinguished and powerful. We appeal to Greek representatives of the shipping world in England and we urge them to support the Greek flag and Greek shipping companies. United actions and co-operations are absolutely feasible and effective,” he said.

Mousouroulis met the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Koji Sekimizu, and on Nov. 29, is set to meet several members of the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee of London. Mousouroulis reportedly urged them to invest in Greece, not only in shipping sectors, but a wider range of fields. Also on his schedule is a meeting with the U.K.’s Deputy Minister responsible for shipping issues, Steven Hammond, to discuss mutual interests.
