Foreigner in Stuttggart Festival of Acts

Following last year’s success, the successful Greek National Theater’s performance Foreigner will be performed in Stuttgart, in the SETT Festival (Stuttgarder Europa Theater Treffen) on Nov. 26 and 27.

The two one-act plays, commissioned by the GNT and written by two young, but already acclaimed Greek writers, Yannis Tsiros and Lena Kitsopoulou, explore various aspects of the word foreigner in today’s society, going beyond stereotype and prejudice.

Brought to stage by two young and talented directors, Yiannis Kalavrianos and Yiorgos Paloumpis, and performed by a cast of four, this production was one of last season’s most interesting theatrical surprises.

Yannis Tsiros’s Invisible Olga is about a young woman, a victim of trafficking, who is trapped with no hope of escaping from a system that knows no moral boundaries. Tsiros’ play based on existing testimonies, combines the power and immediateness of a documentary that draws us into the story of young Olga. Invisible Olga has been part of the international theater project Emergency Entrance.

Lena Kitsopoulou’s Austras or Couch Gras is about a group of young friends who invite a tourist in Greece to visit them at home, creating tension and bringing about unexpected consequences. Armed with a sharp wit and a bold ideological position, the writer makes a trenchant comment on the distortions and pathologies that afflict Greek society.

The festival began on Nov. 15 and will last until Dec 1.
